I’m brushing up on my identification of bird sounds, and there were many sounds to practice with at this amazing location!!

Among those I feel pretty confident identifying are Varied Thrush and Common Raven. There’s a Wren, possibly Pacific Wren. The tapping sound of a woodpecker in the distance as well as some woodpecker chirping could be a Hairy Woodpecker? And there are Chestnut-backed Chickadees and Golden-crowned Kinglets.

I think we also hear Merlin, Perhaps a juvenile and parent calling to one another. There may be a Vireo in there as well.

There were sounds captured with the recorder that were not heard or were difficult to hear with the human ear – including the soft woodpecker tapping sounds and the wing-beats, which sound almost like a bird bathing.
